Dumber Camp, Part Three
Posted by News Fetcher on July 24 '17 at 11:50 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
Thus concludes Part 3 of Dumber Camp, unless we uncover some new memory we’ve suppressed. He tells me this is a true story, and I don’t doubt him at all. I don’t think they even tried to send him to any more summer camps. The Mike Krahulik I met in 1993 was a curious combination of unassailable and exposed. You really couldn’t get the best of him linguistically. All the people I know who had hard childhoods are hilarious, not as some virtue but as a kind of intuitively generated defense matrix. They’re “funny” as a…

Dumber Camp, Part Two
Posted by News Fetcher on July 21 '17 at 12:21 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
I have every faith that I’ve said something very much like if not identical to the last line in the strip. I could apologize, I guess, but I’m not 100% sure it isn’t true. There is a more detailed version of this tale presented in an old post, maybe, what… fourteen years old at this point? I have a condition where when I remember things I also feel all the feelings in the memory. It makes forgiving people very challenging because even if I’ve developed an antibody to, say, a Betrayal, I always feel that first when I go back. When I think…

Dumber Camp, Part One
Posted by News Fetcher on July 19 '17 at 11:40 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
I have been left completely and entirely alone, abandoned by my Mork, such that he left me with four or so .jpegs and flew away. Mechanically assisted, obviously. He didn’t just “throw himself at the ground and miss.” He was telling me about an Adult Summer Camp, of which there are apparently several, and like so much else that a normal person would do it turns out I don’t have the receptors for it. So many bedrock concepts that get absorbed in an ambient want by other people, simply… inhaled somehow just accrue on the skin. Accrue, and…

PAX South Badges Are Available!
Posted by News Fetcher on July 19 '17 at 05:00 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
I like all the PAX shows, but PAX South is one of the shows where people bring me beef jerky so it definitely earns a few extra points. I eat pounds and pounds of jerky at night in bed while I watch The Town with Ben Affleck. It’s an incredible convention, on and off the showfloor. Last year also saw the debut of Acquisitions Incorporated there, live on stage - it’s tradition, now, and I can’t wait to bring it back there. It’s funny, there wasn’t even a “C” Team yet. My life moves fast and is very strange. Anyway! …

By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
Destiny 2 is - I don’t think this is a spoiler, because it’s the whole point of the game - the part where the hero drags themselves up out of the Underworld. I suspect you won’t drag yourself up for very long; optimally, the buttons on your controller do things in a game, though there are some notable iconoclasts. I got into it so late, compared to most of the people I know; I got in when the getting was very, very good, with the House of Wolves DLC. I made partner - whatever the Destiny equivalent is, I guess I was Raid Ready - in what felt like twenty…

Irrepairable
Posted by News Fetcher on July 13 '17 at 11:40 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
Having made a reality show myself, I’m aware that they don’t project an authentic truth necessarily. You can change quite a bit about how something is perceived when you alter all the context that surrounds it, or do things in a different order. For example: I didn’t come up with the idea that contestants in Strip Search should pin up their winning comics until, I think, the third Artist Battle. So, we just filmed them doing that as though it had always been done. We wove lies into a kind of textile. Your brain just sort of fills in the mortar.…

Sub-Prime
Posted by News Fetcher on July 12 '17 at 11:31 AM
By Gabe@penny-arcade.com (Gabe) from Penny Arcade:
I think we wrote something like six comics yesterday; I didn’t even have time to engage in base and tawdry mercantilsms. Though I may be the only one; sounds like it was a pretty good day for them. And Gabriel’s thumb was swiping all throughout the writing process, ever-swiping, in search of potentially orthagonal values. My dad always bought things that were on sale; apparently I discussed this penchant of his years ago, in what has become known (exclusively to me) as “The Yogurt Incident.” He had another weakness, which was the purchase of musical…

Posted by News Fetcher on July 11 '17 at 12:01 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
We and Privateer Press are trying to figure out who’s from our Sponsored Stream is playing at their Lock & Load event. Right now, there’s a three way tie between myself (Menoth), Erick (Cryx), and Jamie (Cygnar, a.k.a., the Goddamn Swans). Gabe’s drawing on the stream from 1 to 2 PDT, but from 2 on its Wargames A-Go-Go, with massive 75 point armies and lots of pretty figs. Come check it out! (CW)TB

Reductionism
Posted by News Fetcher on July 10 '17 at 01:51 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
My associate Gabreazy-E was trying to engage is some kind of mystical measuring contest with Gandalf, who was called Olórin. If being a bad-ass is in any way a function of how many names you have, Gandalf is probably gonna win - even if he is just a fighter.. Super Important Info, at least, if you’re into that kind of thing: You may have heard of our fork-tender D&D Twitch Offering, Acquisitions Incorporated: The “C” Team. But did you know that my friend Mike Krahulik is running the game this Thursday? No? How about NOW WA-CHOW…

Penny Arcade Presents: GIGANTIC
Posted by News Fetcher on July 07 '17 at 01:31 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
Starting at 2:00pm PDT, we’re back at it again with the second of three sponsored streams for Gigantic. I like games that can’t be easily expressed as X + Y, and I also like games that learn from their betas, and all of that stuff is happening here. We had a a lot of fun last time talking with wizened-ass back-end platform sorcerer Alex, who makes sure your XP goes into the right bins. We have two guests today, so Josh had to modify the couch. It’s cool! Worth it. We’ve got Game Designer Henry Martinez and Environment Artist Tomas Gomez in…

Discretionary Heroism
Posted by News Fetcher on July 07 '17 at 12:11 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
Oh! It ended up being another Zelda strip. I wasn’t sure how much we’d get out of the first pack, but apparently it’s almost a week of comics. This is probably a strong indication of the Pro-Zelda bias Gabriel is leaking into the writing room. Somehow I ended up getting back into VR pretty heavily. Not somehow, I guess. Some would suggest that “things which occur in a specified locale are, optimally speaking, best retained in the confines of that space.” But it didn’t work that way, this time. The things that happen in…

Thornwatch Update!
Posted by News Fetcher on July 07 '17 at 09:31 AM
By Gabe@penny-arcade.com (Gabe) from Penny Arcade:
I was looking back through some of my old Thornwatch design docs the other day and saw that the earliest one was created back in September of 2012. Now I’m working on the cover of the game and I feel like I’m finally getting to ice a cake I’ve been baking for five years. It’s hard to describe just how exciting it is to see all these components coming together. In addition to Kiko and Dabe here at Penny Arcade, I also have the help of Liz Spain and Skylar Woodies over at Lone Shark games all plugging away on the graphic design. Check out how rad this game is looking! Our player…
