Switcharoo 2
Posted by News Fetcher on December 14 '18 at 01:50 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
Hades is sick with the fever. They just dropped a patch for it too, stuffed with the collated Wisdom of Crowds regarding a number of issues, and there’s a little note ticking down at the bottom toward the next big update. It’s funny; I know these guys fairly well, I was a fan of Greg Kasavin from way back - gaze ye upon this 2002 act of worship in the strip for more - but I usually try to grab a bite to eat with them if they’re working a PAX. I’ve given them a ton of unsolicited advice, for example: - Pyre was really cool. I think it’s…

The Orb In All Of Us
Posted by News Fetcher on December 12 '18 at 11:10 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
We were watching some high level tournament play for Smash, as one does, and while I’ve played tons of it I got the sense like I did with its predecessor: there is a whole other game here that I didn’t know about, and may not even be able to see. It exists in a visual band I need a fanciful visor to perceive. I’ve played it the same way you would Theatre Sports or something - Whose Line Is It Anyway, let’s say, against a backdrop of brutal slapstick. Literal props, many of them hilarious, fall from the sky to spice up each scene. That’s…

Acute Inflation
Posted by News Fetcher on December 10 '18 at 11:10 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
It’s quite true, unfortunately. I stuffed my Switch full of rad shit to play, but then I ended up reading the Kill Team manual the whole way, dreaming of ways in which I could better serve our twisted Patriarch as five long hours evaporated. Shortly thereafter, I left the row and also left the Goddamn Switch in there, which burns us. I have a lot of technology that can execute and subsequently display entertainment software, but there’s no device that has accomplished what the Switch has in my family. My teenager sulks with it. My daughter and I play…

Symmetra!
Posted by News Fetcher on December 10 '18 at 11:10 AM
By Gabe@penny-arcade.com (Gabe) from Penny Arcade:
I got the opportunity to help announce a new Overwatch skin over the weekend and I’m still giddy about it. Put your enemies on ice.Rise up the rinks as FIGURE SKATER SYMMETRA (Legendary)! ⛸️Overwatch Winter Wonderland begins Dec 11. pic.twitter.com/fI3QQusPi9— Overwatch (@PlayOverwatch) December 9, 2018 I drew some art inspired by Symmetra’s new figure skater skin and I’m super proud of how it came out. It’s true that I had some issues when the Symmetra rework a while back but I stuck with her and eventually came to love the changes. In fact I managed to pull off my…

Coupon For 15% Off On The Store
Posted by News Fetcher on December 07 '18 at 12:30 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
Our Merchandise Manager, the incomparable Lidija Piper, has given me a code for the store. The code is KTHRISSMAS. It will give you fifteen percent off. That’s real good. The only question is what you’re gonna do with it. You could… explore Gavin Greco’s WASD Collection: You could… grab a copy of LEXCALIBUR, now blissfully in stock: You could… take a chunk off more elaborate purchases, like Thornwatch or The Dark Of Wood. Any Eyrewood stuff, really: You could pragmatically celebrate Penny Arcade’s 20th…

Juice The Youth
Posted by News Fetcher on December 07 '18 at 11:10 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
When we wrote the strip, what I said wasn’t true - but when I went into the Epic Games Launcher just now to poke around for SuperGiant’s new roguelike Hades, it looks like it? They’re not all tweens, of course. But it’s non-zero, and if you haven’t been to a kid’s Birthday Party in the last few months you’d be forgiven for not knowing but Fortnite emotes are like a mind-virus with true dominion over the youth. In a maverick fit of iconoclasm, Gabe’s son Noah performed these dances at PAX while dressed as Reaper. I was deeply…

All Hail The Algorithm
Posted by News Fetcher on December 05 '18 at 03:10 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
The cards in a given Keyforge deck are pulled from the whole set, and the names are generated by some kind of computerized madness. Occasionally it’s lead to some, uh… Hm. There’s a standing offer by multiple retailers I know where they just replace your deck if it turns out to be named in an incredibly offensive way, but if I were them I woulda been much more careful with my corpus. Most names are just goofy though and I suspect we could make comics like today’s for quite a while and still find it amusing. I’ve been carding the fuck out…

Excardiboard
Posted by News Fetcher on December 03 '18 at 12:30 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
The Keyforge discussion is very long and I won’t be able to do it right now because I have only partial access to my brain and also I was up playing Kill Team with some Germans until three o’clock in the morning. I’ve been to a lot of conventions, thirty five just including PAX shows, and even in that wide river of experiences this show stands out. I love it so much; I fully expect my bank to call me about suspicious activity on my card, and I’m gonna have to say to a grown-ass adult “No, I fully intended to purchase dice made from semi-precious stones…

The Now Button
Posted by News Fetcher on November 30 '18 at 08:30 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
It was the first ‘frame he’d ever made from blueprints, so I think he might have been extra excited wear it? In any case, paying to accelerate time is a core freemium notion and even though it’s not efficient to pay for something that would happen anyway, it does allow a very particular, very limited form of Time Travel. I said I was gonna talk about Artifact after the strip, but I was much more focused that day trying to make sure as many people as possible knew about Gav’s WASD Line. Now I have a second to talk about it. It would be hard to list all…

Debut
Posted by News Fetcher on November 28 '18 at 11:10 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
We’ve popped in and out of Warframe a few times - typically when it’s arrived on a new platform and we want to check it out, but sometimes it’s just to see where it’s gotten to. Considered as a “lens” for games, the Switch grants certain keywords to titles that can make them more appealing. I have described the Joy-Con as existing in a space that contains other small, delicious things you can share, like a Kit Kat. But… being on the Switch in general just makes things seem snacky. It makes Diablo even more of what it already is, and…

Severance
Posted by News Fetcher on November 26 '18 at 05:50 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
The only game by Tetsuya Mizuguchi I haven’t played is Tetris Effect. Miz, as he is sometimes called, possibly, I think I read that somewhere, was behind games like Space Channel 5, Rez, Luminez, and Child of Eden so he sits at a nexus of gaming that’s always been a fixture for me - where music and gameplay are muddled with ice, lime, and a few sprigs of fresh mint. Worship may be too strong a word for the way I feel about his work, but it’s not far off. I’d be first in line to surround myself in his pulsating phonoverse. I’m also one of very few…
