Where The Toys Are, Part Three
Posted by News Fetcher on January 17 '11 at 11:45 AM
By from Penny Arcade:
So, provided that you hold assertions A and B to be true, where A and B equal a) you want to play hobby games b) you want to buy them from a person your travails still aren't at an end, because the sort of person who runs a game store probably isn't the sort of person who should be running a game store. Let us speak with specificity: I don't know anybody who hasn't fantasized about owning a shop utterly devoted to their personal mania. That's pretty normal, and why wouldn't you want to do that, safely ensconced within your ...

Dickerdoodle Winners
Posted by News Fetcher on January 17 '11 at 11:00 AM
By from Penny Arcade:
Sorry for the delay but I have finally chosen this year's Dickerdoodle winners. After sorting through hundreds of entries I believe this is my favorite: 1st Place! The Minecraft dong. A great idea and wonderfully executed. 2nd Place! A Dickerdoodle with a message. Even the text is in icing! 3rd Place! I see what you did there. Honorable mention: If you read the expanded universe novels you’ll know this is actually canonical. I’ll be getting in touch with the winners this week. If you see your cookie here I’ll be sending you a nice prize pack of stuff from our ...

Precipice Epilogue
Posted by News Fetcher on January 14 '11 at 05:00 PM
By from Penny Arcade:
Here it is, the last chunk of Episode 3 - Chapter Twenty-Two, Epilogue For A Universe. I'm very sad to be done with it. But I'm not done fully: I'm going to do a Director's Cut, replete with notes and so forth, and more to read. But I'm going to let it rest for a little bit, and come back to it. (CW)TB

Where The Toys Are, Part Two

By from Penny Arcade:
I want to emphasize that when you lay eyes on the entity in today's strip, really take him in, that he is a real person and we are not making him up. This is a documentary! This is like Mutual of Omaha, but with polyhedrons. I've already suggested that it's my intention to hand my money directly to an organism who can make use of it. There's a Games Workshop store near my office that is easily the best of its kind, its owner even took the time (with a full shop!) to instruct me in the use of washes. ...

Precipice
Posted by News Fetcher on January 12 '11 at 04:15 PM
By from Penny Arcade:
It was only up for a few hours before the site updates with the new post, so I should mention that Chapter Twenty went up. And then, because I couldn't wait to write it, Chapter Twenty-One is also available. (CW)TB

Shoe Design (Help Ussss!)
Posted by News Fetcher on January 12 '11 at 12:30 AM
By from Penny Arcade:
Robert asked me if I wanted some shoes, and I said yes - then, things got complicated. Put succinctly, there is a methodology by which we can collaboratively create a Goddamn shoe. Five years ago, I wouldn't have thought such a thing was possible. I think they're using IPv6 or something to do it. But shoe suggestions are harvested here on Facebook, which is on the web, or if you do not like books with faces on them, you can send footwear notions (no matter how fanciful!) to pashoe@penny-arcade.com. Where The Toys Are, Part One
Posted by News Fetcher on January 12 '11 at 12:30 AM
By from Penny Arcade:
There's a shop Gabriel frequents for his tabletop needs, even though... well, we'll go into it. I feel strongly that the Hobby Shop as a concept and as an actual physical coordinate is crucial. I craves me some conveniences moderne, but I've watched entirely too many little shops emaciate over the last decade, culminating in that day I stop by "because I'm in the neighborhood" except now it's a teriyaki place and the only miniature they have is a cat statue which cannot stop waving. I mean, yes. I still go in. But I want to do right, which (according ...

The Perils Of Lineage
Posted by News Fetcher on January 10 '11 at 12:00 PM
By from Penny Arcade:
We're staunch enthusiasts of Chair's Infinity Blade, by which I mean Infinity Blade. It's almost ridiculously suited "for mobile," equally friendly to the person who has a spare moment and the person who will see the God King slain at any cost. As I suggested previously, it even has a lithe narrative cinch that just flat out works. Until you have five consecutive seconds think about it. I keep thinking there is going to be a point at which Dance Central ceases to catalyze social events, stops serving in its role as The Party Starter, runs low on that bizarre ...

The Globfather, Part Three
Posted by News Fetcher on January 07 '11 at 11:45 AM
By from Penny Arcade:
I hope that someday, when people describe a personal arc studded with hubris (and, potentially, taut pustules) they will describe it as crunchnerian. Digital Foundry has put together a two-page assessment of the security concerns facing the Playstation 3 "in a world" where people at various points on the moral continuum have access to their private keys. I have been trying to come up with single way to express the problem, to compress its scope and scale into something you could comfortably wear on a pendant, but it's too big. I'm not sure it can be overstated. What it means ...

The Globfather, Part Two
Posted by News Fetcher on January 05 '11 at 10:45 AM
By from Penny Arcade:
The bleak saga of Dr. Jacob Crunchner continues, and if I had to guess, I would say that there is probably one more strip to wring out of it conceptually. Another way of saying that is to establish that the sort of people who use words like drinkify and snackify without irony deserve to be kicked again, preferably until they stop getting up. Like so many others, my shit was invigorated when I read that a constant Internet connection was no longer required to play Ubisoft's PC offerings - that was the news I'd been waiting on to buy Settlers ...

The Globfather
Posted by News Fetcher on January 03 '11 at 11:00 AM
By from Penny Arcade:
People have a kind of reflexive, ironic kata when it comes to the word Orwellian. I can't blame them completely for this reaction, as the term has been deprecated somewhat by its increasing necessity. But it's not his fault that he was ahead of the game, or that he identified the insidious tendency of organizations to warp language. Here's the comic, before I forget. If you are not insane currently, PepsiCo's press barrage for it's new organic sludge glucose vector will help to encapsulate the sensation. These are real quotes. That is to say, a person said these things. - ...

A Good Start
Posted by News Fetcher on December 31 '10 at 12:00 PM
By from Penny Arcade:
New year's resomolutions are a tricky business, as recidivism and moral inertia are man's natural state. But I think I've got one I can stick with this time. I generally don't rebroadcast information about piracy unless I want to make a moral pronouncement of some kind, but that video running around about fail0verflow's absolute domination of the Playstation 3 platform is too, too interesting, and makes an incredibly fascinating point that you may be as surprised to hear as I was. A core assertion of the presentation is that it was the removal of OtherOS - the capability of the ...
