The content itself is imprecise - the greatest danger Gabriel's characters are likely to face is literally drowning in their platinum wealth - but it is entirely true that during PAX East, when a DVD of The Dungeon Masters went missing for a panel, my cohort did create a new panel on the spot and then operate said panel for its duration. To the extent that one man can be proud of another man without shaming the other, I am incredibly proud of him. Proudmax; pride which abuts against the theoretical limits of pride. Our theory regarding PAX is that ...

We had a problem with viruses at the last PAX - specifically, they were multiplying inside people's bodies - something this comic attempts to rectify. Whatever. Listen: have you heard about EA's new devilry?!? This is what digital delivery was supposed to result in, before it had materialized, and some of it even came true: inexpensive games, smaller games, games a la carte. Do you remember the original Gran Turismo 5, which sported a completely fragmentary version of the typical experience? That's just what people thought was inevitable back then. It turns out that the people who actually buy games ...

You've got to love Jack Tretton. Well, you don't have to. There's no actual law. Still, though. He's always pulsing with dangerous energy, and doesn't shy from broad declarative statements, which is like the scent of roasting meat to a satirist. It's almost as though commentators were his target demographic! Righteous fire has been the order of the day ever since Move was announced, first with that Kevin Butler salvo, and now Tretton's suggestion that the technology behind Natal is indistinguishable from that leveraged on the Eye Toy circa 2002. The most recent demos, presented by Stephen Totoro from Kutaco, ...

PAX EAST!
Posted by News Fetcher on March 22 '10 at 09:30 AM
By from Penny Arcade:
PAX East is this fucking week can you believe it? I can believe it because its been on my calendar for a long time and I think about it a lot. It might get chilly in Boston and we don't want your delicate parts to get cold. So we've created something we like to call the PAX East Scarf. This is a scarf that will be sold at PAX East. You can wear it to keep you warm if it's too cold. Here is a picture of what it looks like! Here is a picture of what it looks like ...

The God of Abraham, Isaac, And Jacob
Posted by News Fetcher on March 21 '10 at 11:15 PM
By from Penny Arcade:
Is it possible for the death of a God to become commonplace? You may find yourself wondering just this, as you reach the latter hours of God of War. Is deicide something which may be chewed beyond the point of flavor? Of texture? Can it occur with such frequency and seeming nonchalance that godkilling ceases - almost - to be a discrete event? The correct answer, of course, is who gives a shit. God of War is about kicking a hellhound through the uprights at the very apex of the big game. Flashbulbs are exploding everywhere. A bird catches on ...

Subterfuge And Social Media
Posted by News Fetcher on March 18 '10 at 11:30 PM
By from Penny Arcade:
If there is a bigger Splinter Cell fan than myself, I haven't yet met them; but in their zeal to promote the newest iteration, Ubisoft has caused Sam Fisher to tweet. And I don't mean they've made him chirp, which would be preferable. They've given him a Twitter account where he tweets in a supremely earnest way about how tormented his shit is. No. This is something you've got to be very careful with. It's possible to make something like this work, but (ironically for a marketing maneuver) its connections to the "product" need to be largely oblique - it ...

By from Penny Arcade:
That Pokewalker thing kinda turns my crank. Essentially a pokeball-themed pedometer, your Pokemon reside within - earning experience as you lurch drunkenly about, and encountering the kind of creatures one might see in the latter hours of a spirit journey. As a peripheral, no sale. As a pack-in, it's a manifestation of tactical prowess so stunning that it borders on precognition. Young people benefit on mutliple fronts, surely - but parents? Brother, we get paid for days. At GDC proper, we weren't there long enough to see much of anything. It wasn't until I got back and had time to ...

Dungeons and Dragons and Theft
Posted by News Fetcher on March 16 '10 at 11:30 AM
By from Penny Arcade:
In my current D&D game my players are exploring a sprawling wilderness full of strange creatures and adventures. Populating this place with stuff for my characters to do has been a real challenge but one of the tricks I use is theft. I steal cool ideas from just about everywhere. Here are a few examples: -I mentioned a book called The Name of the Wind a while ago and it's a great story with a lot of cool ideas. I pulled out the concept of a polite group of bandits as well as a "Tinker" and dropped them right into ...

The Show Of Shows!

By from Penny Arcade:
I was not able to mention a new episode of the show, because of things. But there is a new episode! Of the show, no less! You may be curious how the hiring process turned out, or what means to have your formerly human spirit dessicated by powerful Khoo Beams, and these are questions we provide the answers to. (CW)TB

A Final Fantasy XIII Primer
Posted by News Fetcher on March 15 '10 at 10:45 AM
By from Penny Arcade:
Kiko and Gabe are here, talking about Final Fantasy XIII, and I am on the absolute periphery of it. Did they receive a different version? The game they're playing sounds pretty good. There's a lot to keep track of, the worlds of Cocoon and Pulse have a unique cosmology, which is why we have offered up today's strip - to help anchor you in that unique context. And you may need anchors, desperately, because you might find your attention beginning to wander. Imagine my surprise when discovering that the dude with a chocobo literally roosting - roosting, sir - in ...

By from Penny Arcade:
I've been trying to write this post forever, forever, but my cohort has been taking a "Blur Break" now that has gone on for the better part of an hour, and it's almost impossible not to look at the screen while these things occur. Furthermore, it's difficult not to stand to one's feet once the final lap has begun. And then, at this lap's culmination, it takes every ounce of my reserve power not to hoist a defiant fist. Bizarre Creations only makes great games, so it should not surprise us that Blur follows tradition. Their UI is a marvel ...
