It Burns Us
Posted by News Fetcher on December 18 '17 at 01:31 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
We need to entertain the idea that is was a joke, one of these Ha Has youths are always entertaining themselves with. But it is true: members of The “C” Team did conspire at the event to consort with another. Tonight, that is to say Monday at 7:00 PST, there is an AMA featuring the precious “C” Team. They’re a good time investment. That doesn’t sound like a compliment, but it’s probably the best one I have. They are a worthy investment of the only true resource. I have a cool art piece from Kris Straub that is an incredibly…

Shivering In The Jeweled Dark
Posted by News Fetcher on December 15 '17 at 03:51 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
Sometimes my friend Amy Falcone says that something is “a lot,” and now Gorborath has adopted it. Generally something is “a lot” when you “can’t even.” That’s the threshold. I feel like 52 billion dollars is a lot. I can’t contextualize it in any way. Numbers that big trail off into occult geometries, chthonic vibrations, and hissing parselmouth. It feels like we’ve entered the Epoch Of Gargantua; these are creatures whose slightest movement carves valleys. I really like a lot of the stuff they make,…

Lore Galore

By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
The Sword of the Conqueror Notes compiled 1489 DR (AC, SCRTRN) Long ago, there was said to be a great King whose Gray Fortress dwelt both in Shadow and in Light. And from this palace, which had a face of cruel stone, the King built two kingdoms - one in each realm. The Forces of Light in the story - in literal terms, the Armies of the Prime Material - could not break the Grey, nor could the Forces of Shadow. In time an alliance was formed between these two armies, and a weapon forged to mark that bond. Called Schism, it was a flexible spear of eleven and one half feet in…

Aspirational Truths
Posted by News Fetcher on December 15 '17 at 03:51 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
I feast on spoilers; I actively seek them out. I typically read the last page of a book first - just one more way in which I am an iconoclast, whose zesty street wisdom is incalculable by the undifferentiated Norm. The problem is that there exists a kind of Reverse Market for this type of illicit information, and it’s generally flooded with nonsense. I have a ton of PAX South news to get to, so let’s jump in. First, we had a demo of True Dungeon set up last year, and it was incredible We are overjoyed to have the full thing this year, and our joy is further…

Drumroll

By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
(Here’s the strip. I’ve never had a single interaction with Geoff Keighley that wasn’t good, so there’s no beef; I just do a lot of public appearances too and it’s a very fragile time. Here’s today’s Acquisitions Incorporated: The “C” Team fic, with art by Kate Welch, that is to say, Rosie Beestinger.) Like a spring icicle, the protection money continued to drip, drip, drip. It had started with Marvin from the New Ironbark Inn. He’d settled in the northern tip of Red Larch after fleeing the destruction of Nemezir,…

Form Arms And Torso
Posted by News Fetcher on December 08 '17 at 12:11 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
I’ve wanted to see The Last Jedi ever since I got out of the theater for The Force Awakens. Arguably, I’ve wanted to see it ever since I knew there was such a thing as Star Wars. You know me; I’ve wanted people to ask hard questions about these fucking Space Wizards from the jump. It seems like we might be getting there? Anyway, it’s out next week and that seems a little crazy, but I am “not mad at it.” It technically starts showing before the 15th, a day we call the 14th. So the day of our Dinner is also when this thoroughly…

Lore + Store

By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
The Little Mouth was coiled, asleep, around the dagger that was its child. The weapon had been a challenge from one of the Meals It Could Not Eat, the smallest of the giants whose hair was spun from star-silver. The Little Mouth had made quick work of the thing; it had made itself Large, and it had chirped well, cowing the blade into submission. The voice in the dagger became still, and slept for a time. Now, when it spoke, it spoke as a sleeper does: in portents and mouthfuls of dream. It spoke of Ras Nsi, who had once held it. It spoke of the flesh it had…

Weaponized

By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
As is firmly established, I really, really like it when reviews for a game do not generate consensus. It can mean a few different things: for example, it might be a bad game game whose fetishists tolerate (or even laud) its worst tendencies. I’m certainly guilty of this; that fact that I don’t “see art” means that there’s an entire band of data I don’t perceive and it leads to tension between myself and my friend Glob. In my defense, I played text adventures and games I had to load from cassette tapes, and my aesthetics haven’t…

Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Posted by News Fetcher on December 05 '17 at 10:52 AM
By Gabe@penny-arcade.com (Gabe) from Penny Arcade:
I picked up Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for the Switch last week and have not been able to put it down. Yesterday on Twitter I mentioned a Reddit post that I found super helpful when it comes to the combat. Even if you’re not playing Xenoblade it’s a pretty funny read. The combat system is so completely bonkers you end up having to say shit like this while trying to explain it: Bursting 1 orb extends the Chain Attack for 1 round. You can burst multiple orbs in 1 round and that would extend the Chain Attack to the number of orbs burst. The combat is ridiculously deep and even though I’ve…

Call For PAX South Enforcers!
Posted by News Fetcher on December 05 '17 at 10:52 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
Yes, we just did, like, three PAXes, but there is another one fast approaching - and it is in need of Enforcers! This august body makes PAX what it is, and South especially needs your help. Check out the Enforcer page for South and, thus inspired, take a moment to fill out the application. Here are common Qs, with the As following dutifully behind. Q: Do Enforcers get a free pass? A: Yes! Also a neat staff shirt. Q: Do Enforcers get paid? A: Yes! Q: How many days/hours would I have to work? A: Enforcers must commit to working a minimum of one one 5-6 hour shift each day of…

Happy Holidays
Posted by News Fetcher on December 04 '17 at 10:51 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
I always try my best to maintain Christmas Posture, to run along the authorized channels, but Christmas is dark time literally and also figuratively. It’s dark. I looked out my window last night into the kind of darkness that would make a man invent God. That grim darkness, like the darkness of a far future that contains only war, is always flapping around in the ceiling corners like a trapped bat. Better out than in. One bright spot is the opportunity to work with members of Acquisitions Incorporated: The “C” Team now that we’re on Hiatus to…

Worse For Weir
Posted by News Fetcher on December 01 '17 at 12:11 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
Gabriel “rides” books; he straps in and they take him places. He got in because he wanted to go somewhere and he’s pretty determined to get there. I stopped being able to do that for some reason. Now, I read a book the way a contractor might walk through a house, trying to assess its stability. I’m looking at the joists. I put a laser level on the floor and scrunch up my chin. And then, while the owners look on, I click out the tip of my pen and drop some bleak science. If he stops reading a book, it means that something fairly…
