Watch The Fuck Out
Posted by News Fetcher on July 16 '18 at 02:01 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
We play Paladins every night. We were curious about Realm Royale at one point, which we haven’t played since it launched, because we got slurped into the rest of their ecosystem somehow. Now we’re in its fuckin’ jaws to the extent that Gabriel is watching developer livestreams and shit. I don’t know if Paladins is big or not! Sometimes you can tell if something is big because news sites talk about it all the time. It’s not ironclad as a rule; they have their fetishes, like anybody else. And since their target demographic consists…

Denouement
Posted by News Fetcher on July 13 '18 at 11:20 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
And so, after going through all the stages of grief or whatever, young Gabriel emerged stronger and armed with talk show platitudes. He can now play Symmetra without a nagging pain, and with enough success that he’s returned to the fold. It’ll be interesting to see if the rework is enough to have her find play in the next season. The stuff I watched from dangerous avian warlord A_Seagull was incredibly communication heavy, but when it worked, the shit she can enable - for example, literally impossible flanks - are scary enough to warrant a look down here in the…

Crew 2 4 U
Posted by News Fetcher on July 11 '18 at 03:21 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
Certainly Mork has played it, and now I have as well. That is to say, The Crew 2. It’s interesting. I’d love to talk about it. I support what Groblin has said in the main: that these concepts map quite well onto an Action MMO constructs. He suggested Destiny, which works, but you could just as simply use The Division. There are games where you earn money and tune cars, Forza Horizon is probably the most compatible with me as a person, but it’s simply a fact that I’m never gonna be somebody who goes way into that kind of stuff. Let me…

There are all these different thresholds you cross in an endeavor like this, and the newest one for Thornwatch is that preorders for Thornwatch: Eyrewood Adventures go up on the store tomorrow, July 10th. They should ship at the end of the month, after the international games have hit distribution from the Kickstarter. Expressions of unbridled positivity are not generally in his wheelhouse, but as we were putting together the text for the strip those words came out of Gabe’s mouth and I caught them in midair, placing them down in the document gingerly, as you might a soap…

The Crew 2
Posted by News Fetcher on July 09 '18 at 10:01 AM
By Gabe@penny-arcade.com (Gabe) from Penny Arcade:
I spent a ridiculous amount of time playing the Crew 2 over the last few days. I picked it up last week but didn’t end up giving it a try right away. I was working from home last Wednesday when I heard my boys downstairs load it up and I decided to let them have first crack at it. It took me a few hours to draw the comic and the entire time I could hear them downstairs laughing and passing the controller back and forth. By the time I came downstairs they were ready to gush about how rad this game was. I let them teach me the basics and by that evening I had purchased two more copies so the…

The Price of Doing Business
Posted by News Fetcher on July 06 '18 at 11:21 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
I can remember watching the stuff coming out of Nintendo a little while ago for the Pokemon: Let’s Go series, the two Switchy ones that feature Pikachu and Eevee respectively. My mouth hung open a little bit. Among other things, here’s what they managed to do: make the iPhone a Nintendo peripheral. I hadn’t checked out Pokemon Go in quite a while, though I’d certainly had a torrid affair with it like most people. It only ever really projects into my life these days when something bad happens; it doesn’t really show up in the news…

Expansion
Posted by News Fetcher on July 04 '18 at 09:54 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
I watched enough of the first episode of The Expanse to know that I should be reading the books; when I grabbed the first three in a boxed set a couple months later, I’d only read about a quarter of it before I breathlessly invoked Article G of the Friendship Accords to push it on Mike. I have an odd and perhaps unique affliction where once I pass on my obsession, in a post or directly, its symptoms abate; once I’ve fulfilled whatever weird-ass “biological” imperative it has I get left alone. The end result is that I read about half the first book and then left…

Muse
Posted by News Fetcher on July 02 '18 at 12:31 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
When we were writing the strip originally, it was on a completely different topic. But when the topic of the Symmetra rework came up, it was clearly like I had jostled a sore tooth. I decided that these perpetual torments might be a superior topic. Symmetra says her own name “SIH-meh-tra,” but I don’t think I’ve ever heard another person say it that way - everybody else seems to say “sih-MEH-tra,” which is how you end up where we did in the comic. The agitation on his part is real, though, and I’ve experienced similar things; there’s…

Shopophobia
Posted by News Fetcher on June 29 '18 at 11:11 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
I got blown up over it in chat; I’d bought the Battle Pass with real money, but I hadn’t taken the time to purchase any items between rounds (LOL or DOTA style) with pretend money, which was an irony too great for their mind to contain all at once. I got destroyed as Khan (pictured with hilariously small hands in the second panel of the strip) so Gabriel was sure to render me thus. Paladins keeps showing up in the strip because I play Paladins every night. We ended up pulling a friend of Dabe’s in one night, and his progressive revelation over the course of a…

Patrimancy

By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
I can help explain the dad joke phenomenon, I think. I may be uniquely qualified to do so. I would never attempt to make the case that this material is not a Rate Class Alpha Danger (RCD/A), meaning it is “virulent” and “inimical to life itself.” Having occasionally told what you might call Good Jokes, jokes of Quality, witnessing the joy they create, I can tell you that creating that joke’s dark mirror - manufacturing a kind of sentient, starveling Joy Vampire - delivers an approximation of that thrill with virtually no labor. And you can have…
