Mistburn
Posted by News Fetcher on August 15 '16 at 11:10 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
Groban was essentially leaking Gen Con tales for a week when he came back, or sweating them maybe; they beaded on his irregular surface. One of them was about an encounter with Margaret Weis. I should say that he had an encounter, perhaps. Judging from the particulars of his account, it’s entirely possible that Margaret Weis - who must be considered fantasy royalty - had no perceptible encounter of any kind. So, I filmed an upcoming episode of my ELI5 show about a game called Atlas Reactor, a game I didn’t understand entirely, which made it a great candidate for…

Vacations
Posted by News Fetcher on August 13 '16 at 12:31 PM
By Gabe@penny-arcade.com (Gabe) from Penny Arcade:
Lincoln City Oregon has been my family’s vacation spot for almost as long as I can remember. I have been coming out here since I was pretty little and now I am bringing my kids out here. I drew yesterday’s comic strip while I was here and it reminded me of another comic from Lincoln City. This comic from 17 years ago is another Kara and Gabe on the Oregon coast strip and it’s fun to look at the difference between the two. One of our favorite things to do down here is hit up all the antique shops. We stopped by one yesterday and I discovered this incredible painting of…

Meta-metafiction
Posted by News Fetcher on August 12 '16 at 10:31 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
We left Tycho out of the strip on Wednesdsay so he could continue to suffer at the hands of the not-men who serve Ursus Malum, who is called The Eternal Bear. I’m pretty sure this is our last excursion into this place, but you never know with these fuckin’ bear cults. Gabrillio mentioned playing Ascension VR in his Gen Con post, and I had a chance to do just that myself with Theresa Duringer from Temple Gates yesterday. Talking to her about boardgames and VR was sort of like talking to the biblical Burning Bush. It was just… energy, that True Believer…

PAX Aus Call For Panel Submissions and ENFORCERS
Posted by News Fetcher on August 11 '16 at 01:40 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
Two PAX Aus notes: - Enforcer applications close on the 14th. They’re a huge part of what makes the show what it is. Can you help? - Panel submissions for PAX Aus close on August 15th. Get yours tucked in there. Early Bird Pricing ends on the 15th, too. That’s not very far away! Indeed, it is quite the opposite. (CW)TB

God Tier
Posted by News Fetcher on August 10 '16 at 10:51 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
No Man’s Sky is one of those personality test type games. I keep reading articles about how No Man’s Sky wasn’t the game they expected, but I never knew what to expect from it because it’s not like there was a ton of information. I mean, on purpose, obviously. You can’t map a game about exploration before people have a chance to get in there. My best moment so far was walking into a mystical-ass cave and melting down with my mining laser what must have been, like, five tons of fucking gold. Gamewise, hm. Imagine that someone left…

Metafiction
Posted by News Fetcher on August 08 '16 at 09:50 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
In the manner of an extended Goku montage, I need to build my writing strength so that I am prepared for the challenges ahead, which may or may not revolve around engaging in literary battles with alien lords or devil gods. That’s what I’m hoping. Optimally I’ll be able to stand in an open plain, gaze beyond the sky, and exhort them to face me. So I’m writing all kinds of stuff. Poems, because The Eyrewood Needs Poetry in the same way that Mars is said to require moms. Character studies. Flavor Text. Anything I can do to be who is…

Live from Gen Con!
Posted by News Fetcher on August 05 '16 at 02:30 PM
By Gabe@penny-arcade.com (Gabe) from Penny Arcade:
This is my first time at a Gen Con and like Tycho mentioned, I am having a blast! Thornwatch is being demoed in the Lone Shark booth all day and the feedback I’ve gotten is super positive. one of the cool new things we are showing off here at Gen Con is the Storyboard system. It’s still in development but I am already really excited about it. The idea is that Thornwatch stories will be delivered like choose your own adventure style comic strips…that you can play. Here is an example. Obviously this is still just in the sketch phase but you get the idea. The top half of…

Gen Confessional, Part Three
Posted by News Fetcher on August 05 '16 at 10:20 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
I’m getting a lot of invigorated texts from Mike Krahulik, who, having stolen my birthright, is now delighting himself in halls reserved for heroes. He is currently marveling at its vasty size and at its alien ways. We go to a very specific convention now, a single convention that spans time and space, and whose apertures open and close according to an ancient calendar. There is a lot we don’t know about your Gens and/or Cons. He is there to talk about his baby Thornwatch, née Card Warriorz, with an actual, honest to God, motherfuckin’ Z. My task on…

PAX AUS Early Bird and Indie Showcase
Posted by News Fetcher on August 03 '16 at 03:51 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
Early Bird pricing for the show ends August 15th, after which it increases Five Dollars for both individual Day Passes and the Three Day. So, grab tickets today. Originally I typed “grab ticklets,” but don’t grab those, because they aren’t real. Get tickets instead. We will not be accepting ticklets at the door. PAX Aus has somehow become my annual vacation. The flight has a strange, surreal fringe, but it’s also the only time my body can actually relax. About three hours into that flight my muscles become something like a…

Confidential To Gabriel
Posted by News Fetcher on August 03 '16 at 02:32 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
It may be true that I did not explicitly mention any of the crucial data that would have created an informed comic strip BUT so much of communication is about the negative space and I’d think that as an artist or whatever you would understand that. Absence is presence. I heard that somewhere, and I knew it would annoy you. For example: when I say “horse,” what I intend is that you absorb a deep warren of meaning where my word-rats writhe and rut in the filthy dark. If you don’t have the receptors for my, you know, nega-data, obviously that’s…

Confidential to Tycho Brahe
Posted by News Fetcher on August 03 '16 at 11:51 AM
By Gabe@penny-arcade.com (Gabe) from Penny Arcade:
I hope things are going well back at the office. I am sitting in the airport in Minneapolis right now, next stop Gen Con! Anyway, I just saw your news post. Yeah I had no fucking clue what this comic was about. I let you have it because it really seemed to make you chuckle for some reason. I figured there were horses at the show or something so I just drew a couple horses in there. You’re a weird guy and I was gonna let you have this one even though I didn’t get it. The idea that the show was taking place in a medieval context is news to me and honestly makes that joke kind of…

Gen Confessional, Part Two
Posted by News Fetcher on August 03 '16 at 10:32 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
I realized something very important when I got the art back from this strip, which is that I hadn’t like one hundred percent told him what I was going for with the Horses. I can tell you, though. Recall that I have never been to Gen Con, so the way I conceive of it may not be correct, but it’s my understanding that it takes place at The Inn Of The Last Home in Ansalon. You won’t actually be able to convince me otherwise. I imagine that I am opening a door, and when I do, the scent of Otik’s Spiced Potatoes seizes me bodily and I am squeezed through a…
