A Little Knowledge
Posted by News Fetcher on July 14 '16 at 11:50 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
We were part of an ADSL Pilot Program in Spokane, back in 98 or so, and I would say that ever since then I have had to contend with Gabriel’s fragmentary understanding of the network that literally makes our lives possible. Anyway, I fixed it! Whatever! I know about ports, gah. I tweeted recently; I’m a tweeter. Specifically I tweeted about something called an “eero,” which is a… hm, what is it. It’s a router, I guess, except three of them come in one box and they’re all the same. It would be like if routers grew in…

Getting the Word Out!
Posted by News Fetcher on July 13 '16 at 12:00 PM
By Gabe@penny-arcade.com (Gabe) from Penny Arcade:
Lot’s of people here at PA had a hand in this new Acquisitions Inc. series and we’re all very proud of it. I think it’s a great show and easily our best YouTube offering. My son doesn’t watch TV like normal people. He just watches YouTube and I have to be honest I don’t entirely understand it. He tells me all the time about the amazing things “Lachlan” is doing. I have no grand plans of becoming a YouTube star. I have no cool accent (unless lisps are rad) and while I think Jerry and I are both ruggedly handsome in our own ways, I don’t expect we…

On Reaping
Posted by News Fetcher on July 13 '16 at 10:30 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
Gabriel and I agree on some things, and not others; for example, my plump larvae don’t whirl in a demonic blood tornado and tell people to die. They do other bad stuff. But do they aspire to be hellborne assassins? It’s rare. I essentially follow the ESRB; it’s a tool I’ve found useful, but I’m not its servant. If there’s something I think the souls in my charge might find nourishing at all, I show them very select portions. But they might have seen ten or twelve frames worth of M rated games their whole lives, just in the period…

The Fatted Calf
Posted by News Fetcher on July 11 '16 at 10:21 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
The nefarious payload of Pokemon GO: one of health, has already begun to yolk and swell its hapless victims. I feel strongly that there’s a way to bring Pokemon Gyms into this paragraph somehow. Just, like, the idea of them. I’ll consider my options. Every day since the release of the game has been altered by it in some way. Afternoon Barbecue with Enforcers? ‘Mons. I ended up at a bar with some people later who seemed to resent how much they craved these elusive beasts, even while bouncing Pokeballs right off their heads. On several…

Pokemon GO
Posted by News Fetcher on July 11 '16 at 08:51 AM
By Gabe@penny-arcade.com (Gabe) from Penny Arcade:
I have been playing videogames for at least 30 years now and I have never experienced anything like Pokemon GO. I took the family over to downtown Kirkland yesterday to hunt for Pokemon and we had a blast. It was amazing to walk around the waterfront and meet so many other people doing the exact same thing. A group of boys who saw us playing ran up and told us about a Growlithe nearby. We stopped to get some ice cream and I could hear people outside shouting about an especially elusive Zubat. Everywhere we looked we saw people catching Pokemon and not just that but talking with complete…

Portable Demons
Posted by News Fetcher on July 08 '16 at 10:10 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
My experience with the launch of Pokemon GO has been kinda rocky; sometimes it only wants to be a loading screen and not a game. Obviously, I respect its decision. Freedom is the right of all sentient beings. But it does make it harder to play. I’m heading to a barbecue in a park this weekend, and I have the expectation that I will see many, many people looking down at phones in an effort to snare various ‘mons. Whatever might have happened with the launch, which was almost certainly the result of a globe’s worth of people all kicking the shit out of…

Within
Posted by News Fetcher on July 06 '16 at 12:13 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
I knew that something strange was going on when I saw that Gabriel had slunk onto Xbox Live. What strange force could compel him? It was Playdead’s Inside, and they made Limbo back in the Cretaceous, so, you know. It’s a pretty fuckin’ strange force. Its always good to be circumspect in your discussion of game events, but when the game is only a “couple few” hours long it transmutes into an iron law. I think we’ve managed to encapsulate the quandary. I think it’s perfect. For me, perfect isn’t about comparing all earthly…

Inside!
Posted by News Fetcher on July 06 '16 at 10:53 AM
By Gabe@penny-arcade.com (Gabe) from Penny Arcade:
Inside is one of the best games I have ever played. It is a stunning experience that you have to play for yourself. I am hesitant to talk about it too much because I don’t want to spoil even a second of it for you. I will tell you that it is beautiful, clever, and surprisingly powerful. Games this good do not come along all that often. Don’t miss this one. The Acquisitions Inc. series is up to episode five as of today. This was a massive game that we filmed over the course of two full days. This particular adventure will lead directly into the game we play at PAX West this year. I am so…

The Sixth Taste
Posted by News Fetcher on July 04 '16 at 10:40 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
In real life, this conversation was held between Gabriel and Gabriel the Younger, and bore the feral cast of that clan. It seemed liked Tycho’s faux erudition - considered “erudiction,” removed it - might deliver the proper framework. But my son was not impressed with this false witness, texting me thus: “I know everything about ragequitting. I’ve done it myself. Also, I don’t like controller games. I like keyboards and mice. ” I guess on the one hand I sorta got told, but on the other hand, you know… …

Janus

By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
We’ve had this strip in the queue for awhile, but wanted to wait until after the season finale to deliver it. I know there are those who wait until the end. I got out of this show at almost exactly the wrong time. I will just say “The Mountain And The Viper,” however you came to learn of those events, marked the point where I hit pause on the whole thing. Gabriel shames me for this, I should have known what I was getting into, certainly there was evidence about what kind of show this was in the previous, you know, forty episodes or whatever, but I get to…

The RegurgiStation
Posted by News Fetcher on June 29 '16 at 10:21 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
We had initially considered a comic where the device in question simply cooled the vomit, or stores it in tanks; I made a play for something like a Fremen Stillsuit, where it refracted the vomit in the manner of a prism, a vomit prism, into rich oils suitable for nourishing leather and Clif Bars. It not in the strip! That is your indication that I did not succeed in my noble mission. I don’t know what greasy ol’ Gribs is supposed to do about his stupid firmware. In the same way some people can’t be pilots, even if they want to, even if Mrs. Greevey in…
