By NIBMRatchet from TFW2005:
During a very brief interview with Nerdist, actor Titus Welliver stated that Transformers: Age Of Extinction is not for kids:

How was it for the actor, best known for his roles on The Good Wife and Argo, stepping into the huge Transformers summer movie franchise?
“I’ve now won the hard earned respect of my children because I’m in a Transformers film, and I’ve always wanted to work with Michael Bay and certainly Mark Wahlberg and Kelsey Grammer.”

And what can fans look forward to in this installment?
“It’s a bit more of a darker vision of the Transformers world… It’s not a kids movie, I’ll tell you that much.”

Transformers 4 Age Of Extinction HexBug Product Images
Posted by News Fetcher on February 19 '14 at 02:30 AM
By NIBMRatchet from TFW2005:
Yesterday, we brought you a report on Hasbro and Innovation First teaming up to deliver HexBug robots based on the Transformers: Age Of Extinction characters. Today, Idle Hands Blog is sharing with us our first proper look at the Products.

What’s interesting about the toys is the product packaging. We are treated with new character images previously unseen. Another noticeable fact is that Optimus Prime is referred as "The Silver Knight". We do not know whether this is a nickname he’ll have in the upcoming movie. Also, we see new images of Galvatron and Stinger.

Product images feature:

Decepticon Lockdown

Decepticon Galvatron

Decepticon Stinger

Autobot Bumblebee

Autobot Drift

Autobot Crosshairs

Optimus Prime a.k.a Silver Knight

The product images also feature accessories, weapons and battle arenas.

Update: 2005 Boards Member tackertackle reminds us that this isn't the first time we've seen the name "Silver Knight" associated with AOE Optimus Prime. Transformers 4 Toy Listing leaked through the Hasbro Official Website lists a toy named TF4 Silver Optimus Prime.

We've mirrored some of the images with this news post. Visit Idle Hands Blog to take a look at the rest of the images.

IDW Publishing bringing back Rom the Space Knight as a Transformer?
Posted by News Fetcher on February 18 '14 at 03:15 PM
By Sol Fury from TFW2005:
Bleeding Cool News has run an interesting article on a much-loved character from the 1980s, Rom the Space Knight. Rom was a creation of the Parker Brothers, the rights for whom have since passed to Hasbro.

Over the last year, Hasbro has applied for various trademarks on the name Rom, including for a comic book, a "toy capable of converting into other visual toy forms", and a TV show. It is possible that Rom was being planned as a spinoff franchise of Transformers - or a complete entity unto itself, given the existence of a TV show trademark. But then there's the toy trademark - which lines up with the silver Bot Shot (pictured) from Toy Fair 2013.

Bleeding Cool notes that their sources indicate something is happening. With the Transformers comics about to go into a soft relaunch post Dark Cybertron, could Rom be about to join the Transformers? Perhaps the Space Knight is going to be revealed to be a Knight of Cybertron - or perhaps that trademark for a toy, intended for a Bot Shot, will get attached to a Botcon exclusive toy in the 2014 set dealing with Knights and Pirates?

We're just speculating on the rumor here - join in with your own thoughts at the discuss link below.

Interview with Hasbro's Jerry Jivoin and Joshua Lamb
Posted by News Fetcher on February 18 '14 at 03:00 PM
By Sol Fury from TFW2005:
BWTF has posted an interview with Hasbro's Transformers brand team members Jerry Jivoin and Joshua Lamb. In this interview they talk about a few key points, including the whole current trend of simplifying some Transformers toys while aiming others squarely at collectors - the key driver behind this was Josh Lamb driving the question of "will the toys be fun for five year olds to play with", and as Jerry Jivoin points out, previous efforts at finding a solution to please everyone, pleased nobody.

The interview also talks about the process of bringing the Dinobots into the live action movie universe, and reveals the brand team's approach to homages - they do not want to remake the original Transformers of 30 years ago, but give everything a fresh, new approach. This covers not only the Movie continuity, but also the Generations toys.

Lastly, good news for those concerned about getting Swerve, Tailgate et al - the assortments may have been underordered by retailers which is why you're not seeing them at retail, but what Hasbro is doing in an effort to get them out there is adjusting the case assortments to make sure they are in future assortments when those later assortments arrive at retail. A similar solution is being looked at for the last Beast Hunters releases - those may eventually see a release as store exclusives (though our UK readers may wish to note, these upscaled Cyberverse Voyagers are now appearing in Tescos stores)

By NIBMRatchet from TFW2005:
One of the coolest things about NY Toy Fair is the aftermath which brings us a lot of Press Releases. Now that the cats are out of the bag officially, many companies reveal their product plans for the coming year. One such company is Innovation First. They’ve kept one of their upcoming lines as a secret until New York Toy Fair 2014.

For those who do not know, HexBug robots are self-operated robots (Automatons) who are programmed to duke it out in a small arena.

Both Hasbro and Innovation First sent us Press Releases announcing a partnership based on the upcoming movie Transformers: Age Of Extinction:

“New partnership with one of the year’s biggest blockbuster movies: “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” in which HEXBUG is bringing the iconic, franchise characters to life for fans of all ages, with the Transformers HEXBUG Warriors & Nano product lines.”

Robots from Transformers 4 are said to appear as HexBug robots and they will fight each other in an arena. An images of the product in question was revealed previously via a magazine published for the German Toy Fair. We are yet to see the official product images.

The full press release is for their upcoming product lines, but you can check it out after the jump.

Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark Press Release and More Screenshots
Posted by News Fetcher on February 17 '14 at 02:30 PM
By Sol Fury from TFW2005:
Activision has put out a press release on the newly announced new Transformers video game title, Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark. The release bills the game as a complement to the upcoming Transformers: Age of Extinction, as well as a follow-up to War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron.

Some key points from the press release are as follows:

"Over 40 playable characters" will be featured in the game.

The titular "Dark Spark" is an ancient relic as powerful as the Matrix of Leadership. The story is described as an arc between Cybertron and Earth, "jumping worlds as it weaves the tale of the hunt for the ancient relic".

Gameplay is "nimble, fast-paced running-and-gunning combat paired with traversal and vehicle action across open battlefields for large-scale, dynamic conflicts."

Escalation mode with its wave-based, survival-style gameplay with four player co-op returns and there will be recognizable adversaries to fight here.

Single-player and multiplayer will feature one unified, persistent character development path, with experience earned in any part of the game unlocking new options including new characters, weapons and abilities.

The game is coming out on current generation and last generation consoles - Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 4 and Playstation 3, as well as the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS. A Windows PC version is also planned.
