Outlast Stream
Posted by News Fetcher on February 07 '14 at 10:30 AM
By Gabe from Penny Arcade:
Tycho and I will be trying out a new game on the PS4 this afternoon and streaming the experience. I wasn’t too keen on Outlast for a couple reasons. The big one is I tend to avoid scary shit. I don’t handle scares well at all just ask my wife who has entered a room on more than one occasion and seen me scream and collapse on the floor. I don’t watch scary movies and I avoid games like Silent Hill for the same reasons. I’ve been told Outlast is crazy scary so it wasn’t exactly on the top of my list. Also a game where all you can do is run and hide isn’t really my style. It might be Tycho’s style though so he’ll take the controller for this one and I’ll be riding shotgun.

Watch live video from CWgabriel on www.twitch.tv

We will start around 2:00 pm Pacific today and you’ll be able to watch it right here. You can also hit my Twitch page to join the chat. Who knows, maybe you’ll get to see me scream and piss myself.

I mentioned the stream earlier and I wanted to talk a little bit more about it. Originally we thought it would be something we do a couple times a month but we’ve been having so much fun playing games and chatting with everyone that we’re doing it almost every day now. Even if it’s just for an hour everyone here at the office really looks forward to the streams. People bring their laptops out to the lobby and we all hang out on the couches. You’ve probably seen Jamie in the streams acting as a moderator and answering questions. Her Handle in there is JamiePA and she’s not just doing that kind of stuff on Twitch.

Jamie has stepped up recently to really help us with the PA community. She’s handling the Twitch streams but she’s also organizing all the playtests for Thornwatch. She’s helping us figure out how to bring Thornwatch to PAX east and give as many people the opportunity to play the game as we can. She’ll also be putting up a Thornwatch twitter soon to get the word out about all the progress we’re making and share behind the scenes stuff.

Jamie even helped out with the game night I did at Snapdoodle toys last month. She was there talking with folks, trading pins and fielding all sorts of questions about PA, Pinny Arcade and games. The more she did this stuff the more we realized the we really needed someone to do this stuff! Jerry and I are notoriously weird dudes and I always feel a little bad when I see how many of the emails to me start with “I’m sure you won’t read this but…” The truth is you all deserve to know that someone is reading all the mail we get, and the forum posts, tweets and Twitch chat. That there is someone you can ask when you have a question about what’s going on here or a suggestion or you just wanna tell us a “cool story bro”. Jamie has really become that person.

Ha!

By Tycho from Penny Arcade:
I was looking at the video again for Shadow of Mordor, trying to cook up another comic because… I don’t know, I spend a lot of time thinking about it, and I saw that Talion and/or his friendly ghost are indeed walking across a bracketed, three-strand cable! This means two things. One, I need to be watching things in crisp, full-screen HD. Second, ALL IS FORGIVEN.

Valentine’s Day Pin
Posted by News Fetcher on January 24 '14 at 11:45 AM
By Gabe from Penny Arcade:
The Pinny Arcade Valentine’s Day pin will go on sale Monday at 2:00pm Pacific. Previous limited edition pins come with the number of pins in the run stamped on each pin. We will not be producing those designs again so they are limited in the sense that if we make 1500, those are the only 1500 that will ever exist. The Valentine’s Day pin is a bit different.

It is limited in the sense that we have only produced 1500 this year. We might decide to produce this design again next year for Valentine’s Day or some other future Feb 14th. They are not stamped with a run size (because we might make more) but they do come on a limited edition card back. At the very least if you want one with “2014” on the back you’ll want to grab one this year.

Sagacity

By Tycho from Penny Arcade:
The two big stories right now, mainstream gaming ones, are stealth promotional campaigns on Youtube and the Candy Crush Saga saga.

I’m not a frequent enough consumer of Let’s Play style content to even understand the first one, so I’m glad Ben can spend the time figuring that out. I’m in the JPEG business; I get agitated when the pictures start to move, rub my chin, suspect grim sorcery. But it is one thing to offer money, and another thing to take it; I do wonder why we reserve our approbation for the former. But, whatever. It’s hard out there, and not just for pimps. When I thought for even second that I could make a living at this, I sold the entire thing to an evil sorcerer without batting an eye. It’s more than money: it’s an opportunity to live sideways, at an oblique angle to every established social structure. It’s like the “candy” the Queen gives Edmund. He’s not entirely off the hook. But you can’t entirely blame him.
The Candy Crush thing, though, wow. I’d read that Forbes ”>link I put up there, if you haven’t already. Independent of the legal aspects, I don’t like what this kind of shit does to language. I have an aesthetic allegiance to words, and I have a business interest in them also, and neither one is served when people start declaring incredibly vast terms their personal fiefdom.
