We have an update on the rumor that we reported on yesterday, regarding the possibility of a wide release for
Masterpiece Optimus Prime, the domestic release of Takara-Tomy's
MP-10 Convoy Version 2. Contrary to previous reports we have received confirmation from a trusted source at Toys R Us that Masterpiece Optimus Prime will be a Toys R Us exclusive - regrettably if you want to own this one, you will need to camp out at your local TRU stores rather than just waltzing into Walmart.
We apologise for any misdirection caused by our earlier report.

Takara-Tomy have updated their Transformers website with details of a
new Campaign Micron giveaway. This time out it is a giveaway for four Arms Microns in red (possibly translucent red) "Hell Flame" decos. The four Microns being given away are
Zam (from War Breakdown),
Glu (from Starscream),
Nozi (from Vehicon) and
Jida (from Terrorcon Cliffjumper).
Details on the campaign indicate this will be a case of spending 3'000 or more yen on Transformers Prime merchandise on 28 July at participating Japanese stores to receive one of these. The timing and theme suggests this campaign is to mark the release of the demonic-looking Darkness Megatron, who is due for a release around the same time in Japan.

Some excellent sleuthing by 2005 Boards member jru42287 has turned up the pricepoint for the Hasbro release of
MP-10 Convoy Version 2,
Masterpiece Optimus Prime, in a store computer system. According to jru42287's information Masterpiece Optimus Prime will set you back $99.99 when he is released.
Considering that importing a Takara-Tomy version would set you back almost twice as much and Hasbro's release is going to come with everything from the Takara-Tomy one, this is a good deal for all looking forward to this release.

By way of
Planet Iacon on Facebook and
ACToys we have a look at the Hasbro version of the new Masterpiece Optimus Prime compared to the Takara-Tomy MP-10 Convoy Version 2. Hasbro's release comes with much lighter colors especially noticeable on the blue sections and features more paint on Spike (such as on his eyes and sleeves). Compared to the Japanese release which featured a gray Roller, the US release gets a blue Roller.
Read on to check out our mirror of the images.

An interesting piece of news has been sent our way by 2005 Boards member Movie PRIME. He has heard from a Hasbro customer services representative that the new version of
Masterpiece Optimus Prime, the domestic release of Takara-Tomy's
MP-10 Convoy Version 2, will be available more widely than was originally speculated, and will potentially be carried by K-Mart, Target and Wal-Mart as well as Toys R Us.
Take this with all due scepticism, as no official release information has been released from Hasbro on this item (on the other hand, the two times it has been included in a Hasbro upcoming products display, no reference has been made to exclusivity. Make of that what you will)

Here is something interesting pointed out to me by 2005 Boards member Junior. Earlier today we got our
first look at Arms Micron Swerve, complete with his new head sculpt. As Junior pointed out to me, we have in fact seen the head before - on the instructions of Deluxe Class Ratchet, as the possible alternate head for that mold.
Could it be a coincidence that two unconnected toys both happen to have the same head design? Did someone at Takara-Tomy look at the alternate head for Deluxe Ratchet and say to themselves "yeah, that would look good on our Breakdown". Or is there perhaps a deeper reason for this head design to be getting released in Japan on a toy that Hasbro has confirmed is unworkable for the US market; with the same basic head design then turning up on a mold Hasbro can use, and one with an alternate form reasonably close to that of Breakdown / Arms Micron Swerve.

Our friends over at
Transformers @ The Moon have shared with us some recent findings from the USPTO. Hasbro have applied for two new trademarks.
One of these trademarks is for Transformers, under the heading of
Entertainment services in the nature of an amusement park ride so this one we know relates to Transformers the Ride.
The other is under the usual category for toy registration, and this one is for Doom Lock. For those who can remember the Transformers Energon line from 2004-5,
Doom-Lock was a dinosaur Transformer, a redeco of
Cruellock. Since the only history of the name is connected to dinosaur Transformers, and we've got a new toy of Grimlock in the pipeline for Transformers Fall of Cybertron, could this trademark application be in anticipation of an evil redeco of Grimlock?
Stay tuned for more news as it emerges.

Alex Milne by way of our fellow fan site
FullMetalHero has shared some concept artwork of the five members of the Decepticon Justice Division, who debut in this week's new issue of More than Meets the Eye. Issue #7 of this series by James Roberts features the first appearances of
Tarn,
Helex,
Kaon,
Vos and
Tesarus, fanatical followers of Megatron's Decepticon doctrine, charged with seeking out and eliminating all who stray from it. Interestingly, all five are also named for city-states on Cybertron, more specifically they are named for the first five cities to fall to the Decepticons as related to Tailgate by Rewind in More than Meets the Eye issue #4.
Read on to check out our mirror of the concept artwork, and be sure to stop by your local comic shop this Wednesday to pick up this awesome new issue.
