Brightgrave 1
Posted by News Fetcher on January 21 '19 at 04:31 PM
By Gabe@penny-arcade.com (Gabe) from Penny Arcade:
Jerry is a pro when it comes to streaming his D&D games, and I can do it when summoned, but I much prefer to run my games at home and without an audience. That being said, I just started a new campaign and I’d like to share it with you all because making things and showing you is what I do. So in lue of a streamed game I’ll be doing updates here on the site. I will include art and photos of props when applicable. I’ll post maps and rules that we make up as we go. Basically I’ll do my best to make sure those of you who want to, can follow along at home as we build this world of…

New DM Smell
Posted by News Fetcher on January 21 '19 at 01:51 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
Seeing as the cliffhanger for the last Acquisitions Incorporated game at Unplugged had one Jim Darkmagic standing atop a small elevated stage while no less than six articulated saws tried to make his insides outsides. Coulda gone a couple ways. Independent of actually watching him and knowing for yourself the level of fucking execution the man is capable of, Jeremy Crawford is Chris Perkins’ DM. I feel like that is a very succinct way of establishing his credentials. But! We also had WWE Superstar Xavier Woods at the table. I got in trouble with Sony PR…

‘Tis Better
Posted by News Fetcher on January 18 '19 at 07:11 AM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
Of course, the latest version of the story dutifully presented to is that - let me see if I have this correctly - all games exist in a kind of superposition in a silvery twilight realm, at once real and not real, so the open world game they used to distract us from the previous, higher profile cancellation served its purpose…? We posit a quantum conundrum in today’s . incomparable strip. For me, Electronic Arts is now the company that pays Respawn to make games and honestly that’s fine. I guess they also make the sports games that Gabriel plays for two…

Audacious
Posted by News Fetcher on January 16 '19 at 01:51 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
I push The Three-Body Problem on every-fuckin’-body. People usually say it dips in the middle and finishes strong, but I can’t really agree with that - I think the story in general becomes something we’re not supposed to fully understand. To explain why would be telling. But the first volume is legitimately substantial and I went after it like a porterhouse. I pushed it on Gabriel for a specific reason: there is a concept in there that may be one most profound I’ve ever encountered in or out of fiction and I wanted to make sure he knew about it…

My new D&D Campaign
Posted by News Fetcher on January 14 '19 at 03:11 PM
By Gabe@penny-arcade.com (Gabe) from Penny Arcade:
It’s been about eight years since I ran a home campaign but I’ve decided to start another one. My players are going to be my wife Kara along with my friends Amy the Falcone and Levin Sadsad. I asked them if they wanted to play straight up D&D or if I could futz with it a little bit. They all agreed that they were up for some futzing and so I went to work building out a little custom campaign setting. So we will be playing D&D 5e but it will be set in the world of Brightgrave. Here’s what the players know so far. BRIGHTGRAVE Not much is known about the events that took place…

Survivor’s Guilt
Posted by News Fetcher on January 14 '19 at 01:51 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
Bungie has escaped entanglements twice now that I would have thought would have made especially tidy mausoleums. What the hell is happening at Activision? It’s so novel to have reminders like this from time to time that every King is simply a pile of temporarily erect bones. My experience with partners in creative endeavor has been… complex. Generally speaking, unless a partner is absolutely required for the project at a fundamental, existential level, you shouldn’t have one. I’ve only been engaged in public manifestations of this kind for twenty…

Chapter Three
Posted by News Fetcher on January 11 '19 at 03:10 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
Okay, so, I wasn’t able to do it. Today’s strip is also about this World of Loam evil vegetable horseshit. But now I’m done. One of the nonsense things, there are many, but one of the nonsense things about making the kinds of things we do is that when we lean into weirdness sometimes it connects with people…? As we have suggested repeatedly our audience consists largely of each other. It’s something we guard with great jealousy. But I would say that for some reason this one has lit people up, which I’d never suggest was an index…

The Hour Is Ripe
Posted by News Fetcher on January 09 '19 at 12:30 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
My policy is always to push things a very small amount past where it is reasonable or even, like… good. Have you ever eaten a burrito, like a Taco Truck type burrito wrapped in foil, and at the very end sometimes you take a bite with real enthusiasm and occasionally eat some of the foil. But there is a portion of the burrito which is inextricable from the foil by that point, it has suffused it such that only the truly bold may enter this rare and refined Mouth Palace. Monday’s strip was about Mike’s new campaign, which is coming along really well and…

The site isn’t really designed to show it yet, but we typically stream all afternoon on Tuesdays with a bunch of novel, weird stuff. Want to give it a try? Here’s what we’ve got, starting now: 12:00 Acquisitions Intoxicated, Twitch’s brewing show. 1:30 Gabriel draws the strip with me in tow. 3 Warhammer 40k Kill Team: GSC v AM, 100 points, learning full rules. Down Deep
Posted by News Fetcher on January 07 '19 at 03:10 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
What a fun trip to the dentist. The right side of my head is an infinite, furrowed perturbation, sown with thousands of abraded teeth. The left side of my head is the anchor that keeps me from leaving the Earth. I was overjoyed to hear that Gabe was starting a new campaign; he hasn’t invested himself in this vector since.. well, since a long time ago. We’ve been adjacent to one another long enough to joke about this and have it be okay. It’s all true, but if it’s any help at all it’s not something that happens consciously - quite the…

Fish Are Friends
Posted by News Fetcher on January 04 '19 at 01:50 PM
By Tycho@penny-arcade.com (Tycho) from Penny Arcade:
I like comics when I read them but I always forget they are there. I’m not trying to speak with insufficient reverence, I’m just a finite creature. However it came to be, I’ve always been around artists for some reason and they’ve kept me up to date with stuff but I can’t pretend to any kind of true membership in the sanctum. If I watch a DC movie, it’s generally on one of the planes I have to board all the time. Outside of Wonder Woman, generally speaking they seem kind of confused about what movies are for or how time works in…
